Project Runway Card – Working Woman

This week on Project Runway the designers had to make clothes for the working woman.  You know, easy to wear, professional, conservative.

I made this to thank a co-worker for giving us her breadmaker.  So nice!

I was too lazy to find scissors so I cut the strips with nail clippers.  I like how it rounded off the corners just a little, and when cutting down the strips on the right it naturally made kind of a circular effect.

Crocheted Love for Cousin-Babies

I celebrated turning in my final paper for school (yay!) by making a toy and a hat for two beautiful cousin-babies:

The Thomas the Train ball was made with this pattern (16 rows).  I made a blue ball with the 16 row pattern, then made a few rows of the same ball pattern out of gray for the face and embroidered the details and attached two safety eyes.  The ball pattern is from this blogger who mathematically figured out how to crochet perfect spheres.  She’s amazing!  I want to be her friend!

The hat was made with a light weight yard and 3.5 hook using this pattern.  The pattern was found on, which is a super helpful site for finding, saving, altering and sharing patterns.

The flower was crocheted and hand felted–thanks for introducing me to Ravelry and teaching me how to felt, Sarah!

Card for Dentist

Another challenge over at the Runway Inspired Challenge Blog!

This week’s outfit:

I liked the way the watercolory fabric layered over itself.  I watercolored some pages, cut them into strips, and iris folded them behind the cutout sentiment.  I thought the dress looked so pretty with the model’s black hair, so I put my card on a black background.

Gonna give this to my dentist, Dr. Kuljic, and his team–they really have made us smile!

Love Card for Brian

Love you, Brian! You’re the best husband EVER!

This card was made out of pieces of envelopes.  The three gray squares were from security envelopes, and the bottom right square is designed like an art journal page.

Project Runway – Woman on the Go

This week’s episode on Project Runway the designers had to create an outfit that would suit a woman on the go–day to evening, work to dinner.  I figured a card version of this would be one that isn’t too bulkly, but could easily be tucked away anywhere.

It just so happens that the woman I’ve been wanting to thank can also be easily be described as a “woman on the go”!  I’m so thankful to Katie for our chats over coffee–she’s always willing to lend an ear and is one of the most compassionate people around.  Thanks for our heart-to-heart talks, Katie!

The watercolor effect of this card was inspired by the outfit for the current Runway Inspired Challenge.  The colors were chosen from the Dynamic Duo color challenge, and the square-shape fits the Cas-ual Fridays Challenge.  I’d also like to point out the watercolor/silhouette inspiration that keeps on inspiring here and here.

Thanks for visiting!

Project Runway Card – Looking Back

Making cards is so much fun!  I made 7 others this week, but totally forgot to take pictures before giving them away.  Oops!

Here’s a card I remembered to take a picture of.  It’s a 7-year anniversary card for a couple of great people who are so cute together.  Happy Anniversary, Sarah and Joe!

These guys are very conscientious, so I’m sure they’ll appreciate the recycled bubble wrap and electrical tape heart.

Notice the SEVEN dots?  ; )

I’m making a series of cards based on this week’s Project Runway episode: The Lexus Challenge.  The designers were paired up and each had a Lexus (the color of which had to be incorporated into the outfit) that brought them to their client (a former Project Runway designer).  The Bartley’s Anniversary card was inspired by the gray Lexus with April as the client.
