Runway Inspired Challenge #15

Thanks for stopping by!

This challenge, hosted by Jen and an amazing design team, was to create a card inspired by this outfit:

Referencing the outfit’s colors, texture and use of the same material in the dress, hat and clutch literally, I made a mostly red white and gray (and a little black and khaki) card out of only textured paper.  There is a bit of a bottom-heaviness about the outfit because of the hat and sleeves (even though it’s short)–I tried to emulate this in the card by making it a tent fold, and putting all the action on the bottom half.  The khaki and black stripe across the middle reference the outfit’s shoes.

What I liked most about the outfit is the interesting, not-predictable weave, and I thought it would be fun to create paper weaves that spell out words.  The blue layer says “HAPPY”, the gray says “B DAY” and the red says “LOVE”.  I made a template for WITH to put before LOVE, but I ran out of coordinated paper, so “Happy B Day, Love” it is.  This is what it looked like before assembly:

…and the finished project:

Since I used so many layers to make this card (6 layers–7 if you count the card base), I’m also submitting this card to the Young Crafter’s Unite – Many Layers Challenge
